Professionalism at the PANYNJ Law Dept.

This is a blog for posting information, expressing how you feel and perhaps coming up with a course of action to address the work environment at the Port Authority Law Department. I, for one, believe that the lawyers at the Port Authority, for the most part, are among the most talented and they follow in a long tradition of professionalism, hard work and accomplishment. The current Law Department management has never been part of this tradition and seems bent on destroying it through bad management. The bad management is reflected in the reorganization, taking hard working, successful attorneys working in their areas of expertise, sometimes for decades, and transferring them to work in areas that are new to them. It continues with imposition of work rules that reduce attorneys to hourly employees required to punch in and out.
Speak out on this blog. Share your views. It's your first amendment right and, who knows, maybe it will lead to some positive changes.

PANYNJ Lawyers Unite!

This blog is for PANYNJ Lawyers. Do NOT provide your real name. We want this blog to remain virtually anonymous so people feel free to be candid and forthright. If you want to post a comment, or a question, please do so, but please do not provide any personal information.

Changes:
We have seen it all - the change in responsibilities, the heavy work schedules, endless hours, small raises, and supervisors who refuse to treat us as professionals. Afraid of RIFS, we shove our heads into the sand, and hope the fickle finger of RIF (or is it not so fickle) doesn't point to us.

How did we get this way? We all remember that working for the PANYNJ as an attorney was a noble and fine profession. Now? It seems we are afraid of speaking out and addressing the poor management decisions that have led us to this intolerable situation.

No, we don't need union representation (at this time=maybe this should be a topic of future postings), but there should be some way to professionally address the uninformed and misguided management decision making that has brought us to where we are.

More Changes:

Why all the "re-shuffling" that apparently required adding to staff (this after reduction of force eliminated positions) and adds new and increased responsibilities to the rest, taxing our already overburdened tasks?

Plans for the future?
Become informed. Read the last minutes of the PANYNJ Board Minutes, and you may begin to understand.
Just check on any new job offerings Jobs, and you see that most of the senior positions are replacements for those already "riffed".

The Port Authority has added almost one million dollar to the Law Budget line. (2009 PANYNJ Budget, page 5 you can download the budget Budget ). Why? Do you see any improvement in your area? Do you see your salary increase 10%-20%? Where is the money going? Inefficient outside counsel?

We invite you to comment, write, mention, bemoan, bitch and/or explain about your personal experiences. Remember: NO NAMES/, etc.

This Ramones tune says it all:
